I am sure everyone has heard this old joke right? She says yes and then he lowers the price and she is offended that he thinks she is a call-girl and he replies that it has already been established, now we are just haggling over the price
The point of the joke is that everyone has a price, even the most moral of us have a price where they are willing to sell their souls and surprisingly sometimes the price is quite cheap
.
We are up for a promotion or a job and our friend asks, "Do you think you will get it?" and you reply, "Well, in a PERFECT WORLD, the job or promotion will go to the best qualified with the most experience. Gender, Race, Age, Religion will not matter"
But we don't live in a perfect world do we? But those of us residing in the US have it better than say Russia or North Korea - Corrupt countries where whom-you-know trumps what-you-know. It is the well-connected that get the jobs, the promotions
We look down upon such countries with disgust, thank our lucky stars that we are not living there
.
But a surprising turn of events happen when we get religion
Religious leaders promise us that a PERFECT WORLD awaits us after death! And how do we get in?
Is it the most moral, most helpful, the one who is kind, spends his time helping others, a good soul?
Nope! No Sir, the way to get in is the Corrupt Way! Whom-you-know is the key
What-you-know, who you are as a human being does not matter, your entire life is a life except for
just one aspect of you - your belief, religion or the lack of it
Like how a Racist reduces a black man to just his skin color
Like how the Nazis reduced Jews to just their belief, religion
One must have a Relationship with the boss and one gets in, one must have the right connections!
Like a Corrupt boss who rewards and promotes his favored, "God" will give entrance to this perfect world
to his loyal followers!
Getting into this PERFECT WORLD in a very SLEAZY, IMPERFECT WAY!

One would think those who talk morals, values would be disgusted by such ideas being OPENLY promoted
But one would think wrong! Souls have been sold and for what? Just a cheap promise of an eternal life of comfort!
That's it! Just a cheap promise with zero evidence is enough for even the most moral to sell their souls!
Not one moral person has ever wondered why the morals of the afterlife are so different from the real world
Sadly, even if someone does, as I do, i can't get past the censors in the media world
I have written letters, op-eds to newspapers with zero luck
I dare say if Darwin were to try to publish his magnum opus today, he might run into the same censorship!
Here again, we look down upon Russia and their ilk and think we are better, but Censorship exists here as well

As to your heaven comments, I get what you're saying, but not every religion operates that way.

The Abrahamic religions have used this ploy very successfully for millennia and people still fall for it. Do exactly what the god says in The Book, even if it offends you sense of fairness and justice. If you do this, then you will get into heaven where all manner of delights await you when you die . And, if you don't do exactly as it says in The Book, the god will send you to hell where you will be tormented with fire and suffer unbearably forever more. But he loves you.

Makes sense, right? Why would anyone not believe this?
