I was here ten years ago and decided to join up again. The quality of the posts has chronically deteriorated. True, there were lots of unpleasantly aggressive materialists and rationalists here before, but the general quality of debate was far higher; more erudite, more intelligent, more to the point. Also the front page wasn’t dominated by adverts for books designed with Word art on ‘Ten Steps to a Loving Relationship with your Dog’ or some such other ‘philosophy’ — I assume a money-making practice, but whatever the reason very, very shoddy. Altogether disappointing. I doubt I’ll stay.

I'm modding and I feel similarly. My guess is it's reflective of today's anti-intellectual Zeitgeist.

If your goal is to use the service for free and not see ads, then you will not find what you are looking for here. In that case, you will want to go elsewhere.

Alternatively, you can pay $100 to become a premium member, which eliminates almost all ads from your view and includes the availability to formally motion for changes to the website, including its policies and appearance, and vote on such motions.

The website is not free to run or use, but you can use it for free and will then see ads to help offset the cost of providing it to you.

Well judging by your thread, the quality of the postings are going to skyrocket now that you're back.

But seriously, your observations are true enough but are not reflective of this Forum, rather they are ubiquitous in the post Truth era.

I thought I would check back again.. it's been quite a while, so start of a new year, always hope for something more stimulating and interesting (to me)..

Nah, who is he, I suspect either someone who objects to aggressive behaviour in the form of cutting forum posts, or likely, I'm making a rash assumption here, an antimaterialist and antirationalist.. huh suggests to me someone without an open mind to new thought and new ideas. This forum is the best you will find online, despite its failings, a place for intellectual deep discussion, sadly something that is sorely lacking in today's post truth fake news era. I hold out hope for better more enlightened times to come, but I won't hold my breath. In my view humankind is doomed to self destruction!
