Autistic awkwardness. 😉 Some things just aren't right. 👍🙃

Funny how we sometimes dig in and refuse to leave our comfort zone :)

You misunderstand. It's difficult to explain, because it sounds weird if you aren't autistic yourself, or know someone (well) who is. It's an autistic thing.
You already know I've struggled with being ADHD. I've told you on the forum and we've talked about being on the spectrum. Now you pretend that I'm a normie and that autism can't be explained to me? Really???

Sorry, I forget who is neurotypical and who is not, on this delightfully neurodiverse forum. My memory is shot too. 😉 I just don't like watching video on a computer; it's nothing to do with "comfort zones", I don't think. Just autistic awkwardness (I may as well call it that).

Yes, the early albums are the ones I go back to, again and again. The last time I saw KC, Mel Collins was with them!

Larks tongues in aspic was the first move toward Beat, and thereby to the KC of today. If I had to choose one band, it would be KC.

Papus79 wrote: March 4th, 2021, 11:32 pm I feel like with Cadence and Cascade they just nailed a canonical ballad formula. I still don't know if it was a good or bad move on my part but somewhere around age 27 I really started enjoying pieces of music in various genre when someone made tunes that absolutely nailed canon, and for that in drum n bass certain producers like D-Bridge and Loxy were experts (and increasingly Calibre puts them out). I mentioned Sublime earlier, that was a lot of the charm they had albeit they'd nail it in different corners between punk, ska, thrash, and reggae.

What do you mean by "canon", in this context? [Interested]

Studio headphones? Mine aren't 'professional', but I take great enjoyment from my Grado SR325e and Sennheisser HD800S 'phones. I have them connected to my PC via Foobar2000 and ASIO, via a Chord Mojo. My music collection is local, (mostly) not streamed. I do occasionally listen to BBC radio 3's Jazz Record Requests, though. 🎧

The archetypal template of a genre or the particular aspects of music in that benchmark a quality standard.

I had Sony MDR-V900 before and I switched recently to Audio-Technica ATH-M70x (significant upgrade) when those conked out from standard wear over 15 years of use.

I introduced KC to some friends last night, ended up playing Three is a Perfect Pair and asked one of my friends what he thought of it - the answer I got back was 'Talking Heads if they were sh--' (he's a bit cynical so you never know when that verdict will come down - almost seems random at times).

I listened to some pricey Audio-Technica 'phones when I was auditioning, and eventually bought my Sennheissers. I found that, at that price point, all headphones sound like the Sennheissers (flat frequency response) except for Grados, which offer a more exciting balance. I like both presentations, which is what lead me to go for Sennheissers, while hanging onto my Grados and upgrading their ear cushions to fit more comfortably! The A-Ts were just like Sennheissers, but more expensive! Nice, though.

I have had a pair of Sony ear-buds for quite a while too: MDR-EX90LP. They still sound great, even after I accidentally put them through the washer!

I have enjoyed KC's music for over four decades and I agree with your friend. It's a dull song IMO.

Finding a suitable KC track for the uninitiated is tricky. I find Discipline to be their most accessible album, especially tracks like Elephant Talk and Frame By Frame. If they like their music with more oomph, then maybe Dinosaur.

I like this very 80s-ish instrumental of theirs:

On a social level I can see why people don't talk music much. It ends up being a zone (in general) where the most important thing to know about a chair is how bad of a tea cup it is. I too easily forget that I'm in Sparta.

If I was to introduce someone to KC, I think I might begin with In the Wake of Poseidon. Nicked themes from classical music reworked beautifully, featuring (possibly) the best drummer ever: Michael Giles. Music is all about opinions , entertainment and enjoyment. The only thing I really HATE is when stupid people say to others "Your music is 💩; my music is the only good music". People said such things to me, and I reacted as most humans do/would: I stuck with what I liked and ignored their music, which I assumed was rubbish. And it is the latter where the harm is done. Because of these scoffers, I ignored classical music entirely, and only came to discover and love (for example) Debussy when I reached 40. That was a shame.

So never tell anyone their music is 💩. It isn't. Their tastes are as valid as yours and mine.

End of sermon. 😉

I shared ToaPP album because it went with what we were already listening to.

TBH like in my friend's case it's half-serious half-BS (hyperbole for the sake of humor), I think what gets me about these situations in general is that you genuinely can't use accurate interpretation of what you're seeing and hearing as a road map of the social domain (it's the auttie thing to do apparently).

I'd also add - I've had times where I've met people who were extremely egotistical about their music, and some of the time they did have good music - I did what I could to separate them from being emissaries of that given band, producer, etc. and figure their attitude is mostly a personal gene strategy.

Music is music, and it's wonderful! Even the music I don't like - opera and dance music (Strauss as well as disco) - is wonderful, just not for me. I think we all agree on that. I just discovered Baju Banton, after a throwaway comment on Jools Holland's show. So now I'm off to enjoy some rather good reggae!
