A classic Father's Day tune: Mi Viejo (My Old Man).

I remember when I was trying to reinforce my Spanish listening to Actualidad 1020 from Miami and some other radio news channels from Puerto Rico and Mexico someone had Juan Luis Guerra in the studio for a chat on the new album and a bit of impromptu NPR tiny-desk. I thought this tune was really spry, took forever to find it because I wasn't looking it up right. Kinda reminds me of what might happen if you cross-pollinated Genesis and Sublime.

I like the Father's Day tune by the singing cleric. It has kind of a Father Ted/Tony Ferrino vibe to it.

The Dominican Republic is home to the musical genre he represents: Merengue, a speedy 1-2 steps run (although there's also the more mellow Bachata version) that competed with Salsa in the dance halls. He took it to another level with lyrics and formal structure and that made him (and Merengue) very popular across the urban middle-class of Latin America in the early 90s:

I'm not a Merengue fan, but when it came to party dancing, I actually preferred the original raw style from his countrymen.
