Wheel is invented by Chinese. Compass, printing, wheel and firework are all invented by Chinese, the 4 great inventions. While the Greek mathematician Archimedes invented pump and screw.
Even today, where when I was in university long time ago, the engineering teacher talked about Archimedes because the pump was used in factory, able to transport water in long distance, so pump is used by engineers.
An engineer interested in pump may re-search for many years looking at just the pump, how different fluids flow in it and there are different types of fluids, Newtonian fluid and non Newtonian fluid.
When I was in university, I was excited when the teacher talked about fluid flow in pump.

But could you invent something now? Something simple like the pump or wheel. If you could and get a patent on it you could become very-rich.

I say in an era of computers what can be an equivalent of a wheel for computer technologies or software? Perhaps program that involves code of gravity influence on particle chips of Search Engines. Say, gravity also works as recognition device, correction device and search device for searches. Search results become not simply product of human knowledge base, but of the hierarchy and place and method of things as they exist in a real world, affected by gravity, including wheel itself. For example, if human knowledge gets skewed or lost, or tend to be insufficient, this engine can keep things straight and enrich knowledge. Such wheel of computer technologies can be called "Kroogle", from Russian word "round" combined with google.

Yes but that is not a simple invention, say like a better safety pin. Now if you want to get into computers the first thing that comes to mind is Data from Star-Trek. The premise there was that a certain doctor/computer scientist invented the Positronic Brain; This brain allowed for the development of a fully functioning and in many ways superior to human android who could think like, but at a much, much faster rate than the humanoid counterpart. Develop a Positronic Brain and a robot or better still a fully human-like android and take the money, lots of money.

Becoming super rich. Well, Galileo invented the telescope but he did not become super rich because the next day, he found out that the market was selling it at a cheaper price.
Becoming super rich may be how good a person does business and Albert Einstein was not super rich, well at least, Bill Gates was richer than Einstein.
But to me, any new invention is possible.
