Perfect. I want this website to be extremely unique, in many ways.

I want this place to be truly one of a kind. "An oasis" is the wording used in the official description.

Consul wrote: April 30th, 2023, 2:18 pm You own this website; so if you plan to commercialize the whole forum, you're free to do so. However, there is something wrong with your comparison: Running a hotel costs a lot of money, whereas running this forum doesn't. The domain + webspace don't cost much per year, and the phpBB software costs nothing.
I suspect you've drastically underestimated the cost of keeping the forum going. One example of the many aspects of your miscalculation is the time it takes to moderate the forum, just to mention one example of countless.

If you think it's easy and cheap, then please feel free to make your own.

Fine, but maybe you can understand that having been a member for nine years and being #8 poster (in terms of number of posts), I feel a little annoyed about suddenly being treated like a second-class citizen.

It's not sudden or new. We have been selling premium memberships for many years, with the premium members getting a much better first-class experience for a long time.

Moderating links is time-consuming, especially when they are posted by non-paying members, who on average are far more likely to break the Forum Rules. Allowing links at all, even from paying members, can be very dangerous, harmful, and ultimately more time-consuming than having them moderated before they do their damage.

I definitely don't feel upset if I can't use links because they are often overused instead of summarising an argument or quoting the important part. I am not saying that they do not have a useful role, but sometimes people give so many, like chunks of undigested information.

However, I am glad that there is not unlimited allowance of unsolicited links because I am wary of them. I have had some bugs on my phone and these are probably not from this site ar all because they come in so many emails. Nevertheless, when I see links on this site I think twice before using them because I don't wish to mess up my phone because I rely on it to do so many essential things.
