Looks like Purity Ring dropped another album this summer, almost slept on it.

This singer's been in my ultra-talented female vocalists pantheon. It's indie pop. Meghan's superpower? She can stick her fingers in your brain.

She was actually at her most aggressive with that on their first album 'Shrines' but she backed it down a bit by the second album and this is still her playing it safe, centered, and assertive rather than straight hacking your brain through your eardrum.

In my teens I remember turning out the lights, sparking up a reefer, and playing this while reading the Exorcist under lamp light. Back then, if Goths had been anything but expat Scandinavian warriors I would have definitely been one.

Her game, at least on that album, was to play like she was a possessed / malfunctioning AI doll, and there's a very bizarre backstory on that one - like she worked with a guy who worked with a girl whose sort of nihilistic zoomer-doomer humor was acting like that (ie. Algo Mars) and the guy had Poppy pretty much ape her to a T, which.... again if I'm getting this right... this album is, partially at least, dowsing that character with gasoline and lighting a match (at least taking it as her own and breaking her in a bit rather than letting it be a permanent claim on her identity that the guy just mentioned had). All kinds of claims to narcissistic abuse and manipulation abound in that story as well.

But yeah, she is scary in sort of Chuckie-ish way, even in interviews and 'What's in My Bag'.
