I just found the album I've been looking for! I love all pipes, except the Scottish bagpipes, so I've liked Kathryn Tickell for a while. Now I've discovered her album "Instrumental", which I'm sure you can find on YouTube. I'd find it myself for you, but I'm recording something and YouTube tends to drop straight into 'play', which would ruin my recording.
AllMusic wrote:Not many people could make an instrument as localized as the Northumbrian small pipes interesting, but that's exactly what Kathryn Tickell (who's also an accomplished fiddler) has managed to do.

I know it's summer, but who cares?! Here's Scott Walker's melancholic gem Winter Night:

Okay, time to have some fun again! If you think the Spice Girls were cool, you don't know the The Shangri-Las!

"Ladies and gentlemen, most people record songs about love, heartbreak, loneliness, being broke... Nobody's actually went out and recorded a song about real pain. The band and I have just returned from the General Hospital where we caught a man in the right position. We name this song: "Constipation blues"."

Speaking of The Shangri-Las, I was just watching this yesterday on 60's 'death discs':

I think this was the first single I ever bought for myself. The B-side was/is "Evil-hearted you", IIRC. From memory:
"See the stars come falling down from the sky.
Gently passing, they kiss your tears as you cry."
Did I get it right?

"See the stars come falling down from the sky
Gently passing, they kiss your tears when you cry
See the wind come softly blow your hair from your face
See the rain hide away in disgrace
Still Iā²m sad
For myself, my tears just fall into dust
Day will dry them, night will find they are lost
Now I find the wind is blowing time into my heart
Let the rain fall, for we are apart
How I'm sad
How Iā²m sad
Oh, how I'm sad"

Interesting. I had never heard or read the phrase "death disc" before.

As yes, Scott Walker always wrote such beautiful, sweet pop songs.
Love Scott's avant garde period. It sounds like a conjoined version of David Sylvian and German-period David Bowie if they both dropped more acid than Timothy Leary :)
