Philosophy Discussion Forums | A Humans-Only Club for Open-Minded Discussion & Debate

Humans-Only Club for Discussion & Debate

A one-of-a-kind oasis of intelligent, in-depth, productive, civil debate.

Topics are uncensored, meaning even extremely controversial viewpoints can be presented and argued for, but our Forum Rules strictly require all posters to stay on-topic and never engage in ad hominems or personal attacks.

Chat about anything your heart desires here, just be civil. Factual or scientific questions about philosophy go here (e.g. "When was Socrates born?"), and so most homework help questions belong here. Note, posts in the off-topic section will not increase new members post counts. This includes the introductions and feedback sections.

Does this mean that 'hypothetical alien life forms' could not join this forum :?:

I know you can do as you choose as to who may join this forum - but isn't this being myopic and discriminatory :?:

If an alien, not from Planet earth, life form were to manifest itself - should we not give them or it a chance to debate Human
intelligence {or Human stupidity} - Let's be fair

And as to AI many are warning thet it may soon be at the stage of consciousness and even if it is not quie sentient I would like
to know how it 'thinks' - How about you :?:

What I think the fear is that Man might meet an alien species or an advanced AI system that will put him, or her, in place - A not particularly intelligent
species.

In fact looked at from another than Human perspective, Man may be a rather dumb species, lacking any real signs of intelligence and even Man's technology is quiet limited.

And taking this one step further after watching the blood letting in the Middle East which in fact has been going on for thousands of years.
I was thinking of starting a post titled:
"IS THE HUMAN RACE AND THE SPECIES MAN CLINICALLY INSANE :?: "

"Insanity Is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results"
{often attributed to Albert Einstein}

in any case look at the Middle East, and all of Human History for that matter - And tell me by any measure of any type of advancing
and/or higher order of intelligence that Man has any right to claim intellectual superiority

Man's technology is "quiet (sic) limited"? What other technology do you have to compare it to? I mean, I like sci-fi as well as the next guy, but it is, after all, FICTION, not science as such. So that leaves the question, with what are you comparing man's kinds' technology?

I have a question of my own. This forum does more bleating about the Middle East fracas than a covey of Quakers. Yet I have seen zilch as to how youse bright lads would actually solve the matter amiably. I've spent a third of my life in China. Mao seems to have settled the hash of the Nationalists in final enough fashion. "Peace comes from a gun barrel" might jar suburban sensibilities there in UncleSamistan, still it worked on the Guo Min Dang, it worked on the Japanese Empire, it worked in the Yank-Brit tussle 1775-1783, one can list a great many decisive wars. Reason would seem to dictate that spilled blood does NOT necessarily equate with insanity. (And no, I am not a starry-eyed pinko. My personal politics are somewhere to the right of...well, let's just say the New Year I will celebrate presently will be numbered 135 after some significant anniversary.)
