The ‘god-helmet’ expanded
if you are not familiar with the experiment, then basically you take an ordinary open faced helmet, and place some magnets on a ring around it. Then you rotate the magnets and the result is that people experience the sensation that something or someone is out there. Some people even experienced what they thought was God. All of which - it was inferred/said on the documentary I saw, that our experience of others is in fact an internal composition.
We could perhaps go further and state that the ‘other-person-out-there-ness’, is all we have of our experiences of others. At least in terms of the sensation of someone else being there. However, they also have this same internal version, something like a mirror of the experience of self within us, being replicated by the brain, then transplanted onto other people.
Thing is that electrical fields are virtually infinite, and every cell in our body yield them. Our brains also do this, and to be affected by magnets, means they also produce em fields. In short, our brains are perhaps modifying the experience of self transplanted, according to what info the senses can detect.
Mind is a mysterious thing, and as I see it sensory information may well inform it, but is not the same as information as our minds know it. Have you ever looked at a pretty lady along the road and she has looked around right at you as if she ‘knows’? Well perhaps the tiny amount of electrical signals are enough for our minds to compose some mental qualia, which effectively tells us things.
Then there is religious experience, sure I could think of every such experience I have had, as iterations of what the mind is doing when it composes a vision of external people. Thing is, one experience showed me an ancient Egyptian deity, which had a distinctive facet to the depiction, one which I read about in the Egyptian book of the dead a while later. Another vision showed my the three women in my life who would and did appear at a critical junction in my life. The first woman in the vision I was already going out with, the second I met 9 years later and the third a year after that. All three were a perfect manifestation of the Tarot card ‘the lovers’.
Sure we could say all this is conjecture, that I may have seen the deity somewhere and with the said image around him, but I don’t think I did and it was very unusual.
