Humans-Only Club for Discussion & Debate

A one-of-a-kind oasis of intelligent, in-depth, productive, civil debate.

Topics are uncensored, meaning even extremely controversial viewpoints can be presented and argued for, but our Forum Rules strictly require all posters to stay on-topic and never engage in ad hominems or personal attacks.

Discuss philosophical questions regarding theism (and atheism), and discuss religion as it relates to philosophy. This includes any philosophical discussions that happen to be about god, gods, or a 'higher power' or the belief of them. This also generally includes philosophical topics about organized or ritualistic mysticism or about organized, common or ritualistic beliefs in the existence of supernatural phenomenon.

If you doubt such evidence as is available, even to the point of wondering if people who said "X" really meant "X", or maybe they are mistaken in their own beliefs, and actually believe NOT(X), then there can be no meaningful discussion, yes?

Religion is BOOMING, even EXPLODING, in Africa and Asia. Why for the very reasons you refuse to admit. Here is an African woman making my point

Obianuju Ekeocha
Before even religion (which was something that came to Africa later, during the time of colonialization), first and foremost, the Africans value family and what makes family: a marriage; and what is within marriage: man, woman and children. So all of these things in practice form the core of African society. That is why we have less divorce, and that is why we have more openness to life — these things come first culturally.

But … a lot of Africans are also religious. Let’s just say that when religion came to us, it would have felt consistent with our cultural values. So [in] a lot of places you have very strong Christian populations, and in some other places, you have very strong Muslim populations. But what we hold in common is this value for family life. And if the family life is valued, then, yes, things like abortion are seen as abominations, as taboo, as horrific. … It always is an ugly thing in the minds of people that a mother could ever kill her own, be it before birth, be it after birth — it’s all the same thing: that is, horrific.
What is on the increase is bigotry, division and discord, as religions continue to fail ordinary people in a chnaging world. The religious people are retrenching in dogmatic caricatures of themselves who foster prejudice, and try to control legislatures to promote anti-human, anti-rights agendas, such as the tsunami of anti-trans legislation sweeping the Southern States in the USA.
No it has nothing to do with those religious people and has everything to do with what you just did see your mentality is the problem your mentality is this left versus right left wing versus right wing christian versus atheist keep in mind a left wing and a right wing both belong to the same bird
Looks like your mentality is at fault here, or maybe just ignorant of what is happening in the USA
DO you agree that that prescribing or taking the Mornng After Pill should be a capital crime?
yes/no?
I can only conclude that you have no been paying attention to the new christian rights legal moves to trun the USA into Gilead.
No I just realized that playing this blame game finger pointing stuff doesn't get us anywhere not to mention the false representation of Africa that this person is painting I mean for instance unwanted pregnancies and abortions are highest in Africa than in any other country yet they say the nuclear family is their most important family goal and that's the value of a human being a mother couldn't imagine getting an abortion and killing their child yet Africa has the highest rates of abortion it's just dishonest positive framing

There are some potantial problems with this offering:

The first is that you seem to think that Africa is a country. It is not. It is the world's second most populous continent, and possible the continent with the most diverse set of cultures, and religions.

The next problem is that you assert it has more unwanted pregnancies and abortions that any other "country" (sic). I love you to furnish the data for that claim (once you have sorted your first error).

Finally you criticise a person for making a claim that flies against a fact.
You are implying that having a "goal" for a nuclear family and finding abortion abhorent is incompatible with the high abortion rates.
That is absurd.
A majority of people in the USA have a "goal" of having gun control laws. Is that incompatible with the highest death rate in the world? Really?

The majority of people in the USA dont want gun controll laws hints why we still have them.
Secondly when people talk about Africa they are usually referring to sub-saharan Africa and do to the OP's clame i assumed thats what they ment because the continent is like you said extremely diverse so much so that it wouldn't make much since if the OP was referring to the entire continent

so i assumed they were referring to sub-saharan Africa and i did this for the sake of the flow of the conversation because it is annoying when people get caught up in semantics and derail the conversation over something that no one was confused over and wasn't a problem and yet now has to be explained in detail for no good reson.

And to your incoherent blab about the abortion rate's im not sure what your trying to say? What im saying is that the OP was trying to paint Africa as this place where the family is #1 and people want to have the traditional family household when in reality theres no evidence to support that clame

and when we look we see things like Africa has the highest abortion rates as well as sub-Saharan Africa specifically has the worlds highest HIV rates due to terrible cultural habits Like the habit of if a man is sick is all he has to do is have sex with a virgin and he will be healed and so the young girls get raped by men that have HIV so now they have HIV and are pregnant all thanks to a stupid superstition
and thats just one of many examples that you dont usually find in an area where the nuclear family is high priority in fact you tend to find these kinds of degenerate situations in areas with low nuclear family homes

and if you want a citation Google it because i have better things to do with my time then to prove the obvious to somebody that doesn't know the obvious

If my "blab" is incoherent perhaps you might like to learn standard spellings, and read more carefully. I think my points are correctly spelled and clearly written with punctuation.
Perhaps the fault lies with your comprehension? I can explain more simply if you tell me exactly what you do not understand.

and when we look we see things like Africa has the highest abortion rates as well as sub-Saharan Africa
Please cite! Or are you making that up on the spot?
What would you call "high".
The following African countries have a lower rate than the USA.
Niger
Gambia
Zimbabwe
Chad
Senegal

The country with the world's highest rate, and higher by far is Georgia - a Christian country.
The abortion rate is 4 times that it is in the USA
It has more women married that the USA , and a higher rate of religious observance.

So I guess christian family values has got very little to do with abortion rates.

You obviously have better things to do with your time that find out what the truth is.

You are just about wrong on everything you have said.

Seventy percent of people surveyed said they support so-called "red flag laws," which allow police to confiscate firearms from people that courts say are dangerous.

In addition, 79% of people - and 78% of Republicans - said they would be more likely to support a candidate who supported passing background checks and red flag laws for all new gun purchases, ahead of November's midterm elections in which party control of Congress and multiple statehouses are up for grabs.

Nearly three-quarters of people, 72%, support the idea of raising the legal age to buy a gun from 18 to 21 years old. The gunman in Uvalde was 18 years old and legally purchased two semi-automatic rifles and 375 rounds of ammunition

"Factbox: Americans favor changing gun laws, even if Congress may not act."

Obviously you are toobusy for facts.

You might want to ask yourself why there really is no change in gun laws. Is it because the NRA keep putting money into, mainly Republican politicians??
