Philosophy Discussion Forums | A Humans-Only Club for Open-Minded Discussion & Debate

Humans-Only Club for Discussion & Debate

A one-of-a-kind oasis of intelligent, in-depth, productive, civil debate.

Topics are uncensored, meaning even extremely controversial viewpoints can be presented and argued for, but our Forum Rules strictly require all posters to stay on-topic and never engage in ad hominems or personal attacks.

Discuss philosophical questions regarding theism (and atheism), and discuss religion as it relates to philosophy. This includes any philosophical discussions that happen to be about god, gods, or a 'higher power' or the belief of them. This also generally includes philosophical topics about organized or ritualistic mysticism or about organized, common or ritualistic beliefs in the existence of supernatural phenomenon.

Did Jesus resurrect in Heaven or in Hell?
Scriptures, as they often do, give both options as true.
The Bible does what it was created by the Jewish authors to do. Make us question and judge.
Without Midrash, the Bible is just another useless myth.
In one version, Jesus tells his fellow prisoner on the cross that they will both awaken in heaven.
Another version has Jesus awakening in hell, where he toils for 3 days.
One old adage might say, if one day is 1,000 years, Jesus is almost at his 2-year mark.
There is a confusion as to who received Jesus as a sacrifice, Satan, or the androgynous Yahweh.
If sacrificed to Satan, she rules the world.
If sacrificed to Yahweh, Jesus rules the world.
Into whose hands did Jesus ascend, Satan’s or Yahweh’s?
I cannot know where Jesus ended via the bible, but think there is a valuable moral lesson here, but do not quite have my finger on what it is. Help.
What is your best guess as to where Jesus is?

Well constructed evidence that the words of gods are actually written by men, typically men with an axe to grind.

Here we have saviours throughout history who had been crucified:

Thulis of Egypt, 1700 B. C.[5]
Krishna of India, 1200 B.C.
Crite of Chaldea, 1200 B.C.[6][7]
Atys of Phrygia, 1170 B.C.
Thammuz or Tammuz of Syria, 1160 B.C.
Hesus or Eros 834 B.C.
Bali of Orissa, 725 B.C.[8]
Indra of Thibet (Tibet), 725 B.C.
Iao of Nepaul (Nepal), 622 B.C.[9][10]
Buddha Sakia (Muni) of India, 600 B.C.[11]
Mitra (Mithra) of Persia, 600 B.C.
Alcestos of Euripides, 600 B.C.
Quezalcoatl of Mexico, 587 B.C.
Wittoba of the Bilingonese, 552 B.C.[12]
Prometheus or Æschylus of Caucasus, 547 B.C.
Quirinus of Rome, 506 B.C.

Then consider the myths of Mithras, Dionysus, Osiris or Horus.

It's hard to understand why there's still so much interest in an obvious myth. Virgin births. Miracles. Healing. Resurrections. It is astonishing that people believe such things in this day an age, let alone the demented conspiracy theories that abound.

Yes, at women and gays.

They were ignorant of morals.

I wonder why the religious and political right wing still is.

I see where you are coming from and agree from a belief in myths POV.

I chose to do as I do to reduce the harm that the right wings are doing to women and gays, as they are the religions longest lasting victims of discrimination without a just cause.

It is not much but I have nothing better to do with my time left.

Payback for a near perfect life.

If you're already in heaven why would you need to be resurrected? Why would the likes of Jesus require any of these two special places to be resurrected in the first place. Was there some special surgery that could only be performed in one of the antipodes?

Kepler 22b. He's 1.3' tall, a healthy, active schoolchild of 181 orbits old, just learning the scriptures in elementary school, not yet assigned any of the five genders. In about 400 more orbits, chai will pick fights with the clergy, get into trouble with the authorities and be protaractedly, ritually killed, then resurrected, recalled to heaven, then, after a short but riotous vacation, sent off to yet another planet, to redeem a bunch of natives who will sing his praises, make big statues of him and forget his message.

IDK.

Jesus was not in heaven.

Natural causes (cosmic inflation of a virtual particle) would seem more likely than an anthropomorphic spirit that has only been postulated 2,000 years ago in the Middle East, and in no other part of the world.

Re: life, I see it as a continuum. I do not see geology as "dead" but part of the continuum of life. I do not think that the above-mentioned deity breathed the spark of life into inanimate matter, other than metaphorically. What I see is evidence from constant evolution. The word "evolution" technically only applies to biology, but that concept came about before the discipline of geobiology, which recognises the chemical evolution that preceded biological evolution.

You wouldn't. You would be laid in a tomb
58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
That's where he is resurrected; the angel rolls away the stone, he comes and talks to the people - then he rises up to heaven.
Luke 24:50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

This also gives us hope too.
