Agreed. For me Yes, especially early Yes gave my ears that challenge that they so craved. Whilst many of my contemporaries were turning their heads to mush with ABBA and Disco, I was going the headphone crash out with those complex sounds.

I was especially dark on disco because piped music increasingly took over venues that once hosted live music. Events that focused at least somewhat on art were reduced to meat markets.

Still, my tastes are mellowing with age, and these days I especially love me some Jean Luc Ponty:

I weirdly enough have a penchant for Bossa Nova. Once the dreadful lift music, it is in fact rather good.

Here's the Irish singer Sibéal with the great folk song The Wind that Shakes the Barley. Isn't it wonderful?
I recommend her entire album simply titled "Sibéal", which contains songs sung in English and ones sung in (Irish) Gaelic. Speaking of (Irish) Gaelic, can you pronounce her full name Sibéal Ní Chasaide correctly? Good luck!
