What happens after 2:45 is mind-blowing, the whole set up to land into the solo. John Sykes is an amazing guitarist.

Yeah that was pretty slick.

I've had some interesting/zany ideas in the past that I toyed with a bit but never completed, like one night tripping with friends I decided to break out Ableton and see if I could make a Roni Size & Reprazent style jazzstep tune with guitar licks from the opening of Blackened by Metallica. Another was to make an aggressive amen-break track out of TV II by Ministry (IMHO that would still be hot if someone did it).
