Has it got something to do with ancient Greek people trying to fit the orbits of planets to the five platonic solids, and the beauty of symmetry and mathematics and Pythagoras thinking that the proof of the irrationality of the square root of two was ugly and Leo Da Vinci having a liking for well-proportioned men in big wheels and Kepler being so inspired by the whole planets and solids thing that he became a giant for Newton to stand on the shoulders of?
