I am in awe of your research and wisdom. Your book was so insightful, and parts resonated with me to the point that it will forever change my thinking. I loved that you brought this to our attention. I was unaware that more people are in prison for committing nonviolent crimes than those who have committed violent crimes. Just because they broke the law does not mean they threaten society.
I know the law is the law, and my son is a police officer who swore to uphold it. It’s his job to stop those who choose to break the law, and I love him for that. However, some people just need rehabilitation, not a cage. Taxpayers bear the financial burden of housing the inmates. Our money would be better served, in my opinion, by assisting these nonviolent offenders in receiving treatment for their issues. Don't you?
