A Humans-Only Philosophy Club

The Philosophy Forums at OnlinePhilosophyClub.com aim to be an oasis of intelligent in-depth civil debate and discussion. Topics discussed extend far beyond philosophy and philosophers. What makes us a philosophy forum is more about our approach to the discussions than what subject is being debated. Common topics include but are absolutely not limited to neuroscience, psychology, sociology, cosmology, religion, political theory, ethics, and so much more.

This is a humans-only philosophy club. We strictly prohibit bots and AIs from joining.

This is a discussion forum topic related to the book, In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All.

For the consistent unwavering invincible true happiness that is free-spirited inner peace, there is much to not cling to. Essentially, anything and everything is that to which you would not be clinging. In a sense, inner peace is the lack of clinging, and by extension a lack of possessiveness, greediness, desperate controllingness, controlling neediness, and all other manifestations of clinging, addiction, toxic codependency, or miserable attachment. The inner peace of spiritual freedom is, in a sense, to understand that what you own ends up thereby owning you and from that truth learn how to be free: just let go.

Of course, you cannot really own anything except your true self and your spiritual freedom (two things that cannot be stripped from you); all else is fleeting like the ever-unique clouds floating by in the sky. You can curse the clouds as ugly and evil, thereby voluntarily making yourself miserable, or you can worship some of the clouds as the source of your happiness and try to own them and curse time itself as the float away, making yourself miserable, or you can unconditionally love and unpossessively appreciate the clouds as each being infinitely beautiful in its own unique way in part because of its very fleetingness and uniqueness. But, no matter which of those options you choose, you never own those clouds, and they will always float away, and they cannot hurt the real you; you can only hurt yourself. Spiritually speaking, you can only hurt yourself, with delusions and lies and addiction-caving and clinging possessiveness. Thus, the last sentence from my last paragraph is more accurately re-phrases as thus: "The inner peace of spiritual freedom is, in a sense, to understand that what you seek to own ends up thereby owning you; you become a slave to it and to your addiction to it, a prisoner in your own body; And, from that truth, you learn how to be free: just let go."

When your clasping, grasping, possessive hand clings, it feels like you are handcuffed, but just let go, and you become free.

To be happy, here is a thing I suggest of which I suggest you also let go (if you haven't already):

Let go of the misery-inducing word 'too'.

You are not too anything. You are perfectly enough of everything, no more and no less.

Let those statements be mantras to you if you wish, and so for that purpose I say them again:

- You are not too anything.

- You are perfectly enough.

Period. Full stop. You are perfectly enough. And so is everything else.

Go to a mirror and say it if you wish. Go to mirror and say it every day if you wish. Say it in the first person if you wish:

- "I am not too anything."

- "I am perfectly enough."

Because you are.

With love,

Everyone's life is different, and what makes one person happy may not make another person happy. This is because our unique experiences, beliefs, and values shape our ideas of happiness. It's important to respect these differences and let people choose their own ways to find happiness and contentment.

Recognize that the intrinsic value you bring to the world is immeasurable. You possess a combination of qualities, experiences, and perspectives that make you uniquely valuable. Embracing this truth allows you to appreciate your worth without the need for comparison or self-doubt. In a world that often emphasizes "too much" or "not enough," remember that you are perfectly enough in your own right.

It's about recognizing your unique qualities, strengths, and imperfections, and understanding that they contribute to your individuality. This mindset can lead to a more fulfilling and authentic life, fostering resilience in the face of challenges and nurturing a positive self-image.

The trap of possessive attachments further complicates the journey, as clinging to material or emotional possessions can obstruct the path to inner peace and fulfillment. By acknowledging these pitfalls and striving for awareness and detachment, individuals can navigate the spiritual terrain with a clearer sense of purpose and well-being.

The wisdom in this perspective lies in recognizing the paradoxical nature of attachment – that the more we cling, the more we may feel bound. By understanding and practicing the art of letting go, individuals can experience a lighter, less burdened existence, fostering personal growth and a deeper connection with the ever-changing flow of life.
